Role Overview
Our Client is seeking a detail-oriented Customs Executive to take ownership of all customs-related processes linked to import operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring the efficient clearance of goods through Maltese ports and customs channels, while maintaining full compliance with applicable regulations and timelines. The role requires close coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders to support the smooth movement of cargo from arrival to final delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Customs Documentation: Prepare, verify, and submit all required customs paperwork to facilitate the timely clearance and release of imported goods.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Maintain regular communication with suppliers, freight partners, port operators, and customs officials to ensure seamless import workflows.
- Declarations & Duties Processing: Complete all necessary customs and NSO declarations, ensuring accurate assessment and payment of duties, taxes, and related port charges.
- Import Administration: Manage delivery orders, port releases, and booking arrangements for containers and trailers to support efficient logistics handling.
- Shipment Monitoring & Compliance: Track incoming consignments, proactively address clearance delays or issues, and ensure all activities comply with relevant import regulations.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: A Level standard of education is preferred. A qualification in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Experience: Previous experience in customs administration, freight forwarding, shipping, or logistics operations is preferred.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to engage effectively with internal teams and external authorities in a clear and professional manner.
- Interpersonal Skills: Confident in building and maintaining productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with customs procedures, import documentation, and relevant logistics systems is advantageous.
- Organisation: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and take responsibility for assigned tasks.
- Problem-Solving: Able to respond quickly to clearance issues and identify practical solutions under time pressure.
