Brief Position Description
The Sous Chef will assist the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, supervising staff, maintaining food quality standards, and ensuring smooth service.
The role requires strong leadership skills, hands-on cooking ability, and the capacity to work under pressure in a busy restaurant environment.
- Assist the Head Chef in overseeing kitchen operations
- Supervise and support kitchen staff during preparation and service
- Ensure consistency, portion control, and high presentation standards
- Maintain HACCP and food safety standards at all times
- Assist in stock control, ordering, and cost management
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff
- Monitor kitchen cleanliness and organization
- Ensure smooth coordination during peak service
- Minimum 3 years experience in a professional kitchen
- Previous experience in a supervisory or senior chef role preferred
- Strong knowledge of Mediterranean cuisine (Maltese cuisine is an asset)
- Knowledge of food safety and HACCP procedures
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Good organizational and time management skills
