Role Overview
The Health & Safety Officer will play a key role in safeguarding workplace standards by embedding and maintaining effective health and safety practices across operations. The role involves supporting compliance, promoting a strong safety culture, carrying out inspections, and ensuring risks are appropriately identified and managed within a manufacturing and site-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Hazard Identification & Risk Control: Assess working environments to detect potential risks and implement practical measures to minimise workplace incidents and unsafe conditions.
- Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver safety-related guidance and training sessions to strengthen employee awareness and promote safe working practices.
- Incident Management: Review workplace incidents, carry out investigations, and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Inspections & Compliance Checks: Perform routine site inspections and audits to ensure adherence to internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Reporting & Records Management: Maintain accurate documentation, safety logs, and compliance reports in line with statutory and organisational standards.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Work closely with internal management teams and external authorities to ensure full alignment with health and safety obligations.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Previous exposure to a health and safety role within manufacturing, construction, or an industrial setting is considered an asset.
- Driving License: A valid driving license Category B is required.
- Language Skills: Strong command of English is essential. Knowledge of Maltese would be considered beneficial.
- Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate safety requirements and influence safe working behaviour across all levels of the organisation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Confident in working with teams on-site and engaging effectively with both operational staff and management.
- Technical Skills: Good understanding of EHS frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and occupational safety practices. Certification such as NEBOSH or OSHA will be considered an advantage.
- Organisation: Strong ability to manage inspections, documentation, and compliance tracking in a structured and consistent manner.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and take ownership of safety-related initiatives.
- Problem-Solving: Capable of assessing issues quickly and implementing practical, compliant solutions to reduce risk.
