Butcher (Gozo)
The Butcher is responsible for cutting, trimming, and preparing various types of meats according to customer specifications and company standards. This role involves ensuring high-quality presentation, maintaining strict hygiene and safety standards, and providing excellent customer service. The butcher will also monitor inventory, manage stock rotation, and ensure all meat products are properly labeled and displayed.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Cut, trim, debone, and portion meat products including beef, pork, poultry, and lamb.
- Prepare specialty cuts and custom orders based on customer requests.
- Operate and maintain butchery equipment such as saws, grinders, slicers, and knives safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all meat products are stored, rotated, and displayed according to safety and quality standards.
- Inspect meats for quality, freshness, and appearance.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized work environment following health and safety regulations.
- Weigh, package, label, and price meat products accurately.
- Assist and advise customers with product selections, cooking tips, and preparation suggestions.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate with management regarding stock needs and product orders.
- Adhere to all food safety policies including HACCP and workplace safety protocols.
Educational and skill requirements
Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a butcher or in meat processing strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of meat cuts, preparation techniques, and safety standards.
- Ability to use butchery tools and machinery safely.
- Excellent knife skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a cold environment and stand for long periods.
- Basic math skills for weighing and pricing.
- Understanding of health, hygiene, and food safety regulations.
