Role Overview
The Backend Developer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the server-side components that power the Company’s digital platforms. This role is crucial for ensuring that systems are secure, efficient, and capable of supporting complex financial operations. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and scalable backend solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Server-Side Development: Architect and develop robust, scalable backend applications using contemporary frameworks and technologies.
- Database Management: Maintain and optimise relational databases (SQL Server), ensuring data integrity, availability, and security.
- API Architecture: Design, implement, and manage secure RESTful APIs to support front-end applications and third-party integrations.
- Core System Integration: Develop seamless connections between the digital platforms and the Core Banking System, as well as other internal and external financial services.
- Performance & Scalability: Identify backend performance issues, optimise code, and ensure systems operate efficiently under high-load conditions.
- Security Implementation: Apply rigorous security standards, including encryption protocols and secure authentication mechanisms, to all backend services.
- Quality Assurance & Documentation: Work with QA teams on unit and integration testing while producing comprehensive documentation for system architecture, API endpoints, and database structures.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in backend development; prior exposure to the financial or banking sector is advantageous.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English; knowledge of Maltese is considered an asset.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication to effectively collaborate with developers, architects, and stakeholders.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work within Agile teams, fostering collaboration and problem-solving.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in server-side programming languages such as C# (.NET), Java, or Python; expertise in SQL Server and T-SQL; experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
- Organisation: Skilled in managing multiple priorities, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality backend solutions.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive, dependable, and able to work independently when required.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities to resolve complex technical challenges.
