Role Overview
The Accounting Team Leader will take responsibility for supervising a team of accounting professionals while ensuring high-quality service delivery and adherence to regulatory requirements. Working closely with senior management, the selected candidate will oversee technical work, support staff development, and ensure deadlines and operational targets are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Work Review and Quality Assurance: Examine accounting assignments prepared by team members to confirm correctness, completeness, and adherence to relevant accounting standards and internal guidelines.
- Team Leadership and Development: Provide guidance, coaching, and structured support to junior staff while encouraging continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Workflow Coordination: Plan and oversee task allocation within the team to ensure efficient operations and a fair distribution of responsibilities.
- Client Billing and Receivables: Supervise invoicing processes, track outstanding balances, and communicate with clients when necessary to resolve payment-related matters.
- Operational Support: Assist senior management with departmental planning, reporting needs, and special assignments while contributing to improvements in processes and resource planning.
- Technical Oversight: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards, VAT requirements, and legislative developments relevant to the Maltese regulatory environment.
- Client Engagement: Attend meetings and carry out accounting-related duties at client premises when required.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: Fully qualified accountant holding ACA, ACCA, CPA or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience: Proven experience in accounting roles, including at least two years working within Maltese regulatory and compliance frameworks.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Ability to present financial information clearly and professionally when interacting with colleagues and clients.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership approach with the ability to motivate and support team members in a collaborative environment.
- Technical Skills: Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards together with proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Organisation: Ability to coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
- Self-Motivated: Capable of working independently while maintaining a proactive and results-oriented approach.
- Problem-Solving: Practical mindset with the ability to resolve technical issues and operational challenges efficiently.
