Role Overview
The Head of Marketing & Communications will shape and drive the overall brand positioning, communication strategy and public profile. This senior leadership role combines strategic oversight with operational execution, ensuring cohesive messaging across all platforms while strengthening stakeholder engagement and safeguarding the organisation’s reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Marketing & Brand Leadership: Design, implement and continuously refine a comprehensive marketing and brand strategy that aligns with the organisation’s long-term objectives and public mandate.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor and coordinate a multidisciplinary team, fostering accountability, high performance standards and professional growth.
- Corporate Communications & Media Relations: Oversee all internal and external communications, manage media engagement, respond to press queries and official requests, and act as the primary liaison for interviews and formal information submissions.
- Digital Presence & Content Management: Direct the development of digital platforms including the website and social channels, ensuring consistent, high-quality content and impactful storytelling.
- Stakeholder & Reputation Management: Coordinate corporate events, collaborate with government entities and institutional stakeholders, monitor public sentiment, and implement initiatives that strengthen public trust and brand perception.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree (MQF Level 6) or higher, in Marketing, Communications or a related discipline.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior marketing, communications or corporate affairs role. Candidates with at least 8 years of relevant professional experience in lieu of formal qualifications will also be considered.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of both Maltese and English is required to succeed in this role.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with the confidence to represent the organisation at senior levels and address complex or sensitive matters.
- Interpersonal Skills: The capacity to build trusted relationships with internal teams, government entities, media representatives and external stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in digital communication tools, media management, content strategy development and brand monitoring methodologies.
- Organisation: Exceptional planning and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives, deadlines and high-level engagements simultaneously.
- Self-Motivated: A principled and driven leader who demonstrates integrity, sets high standards and leads by example.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical thinking skills with the ability to interpret public perception data and implement effective corrective strategies where necessary.
