Role Overview
The Head of Finance will take full ownership of the entity's financial operations, ensuring strong governance, effective resource planning and long-term financial sustainability. Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, this senior position combines hands-on financial oversight with strategic input into future growth, funding diversification and organisational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Resource Management: Oversee the effective deployment of financial resources to support operational and project-based activities, while maintaining optimal liquidity and financial resilience.
- Budget Leadership & Forecasting: Direct the annual budgeting cycle in partnership with departmental leaders, establish measurable financial targets and produce forward-looking projections to support strategic decision-making.
- Management Reporting & Analysis: Supervise the preparation of periodic management accounts and produce detailed financial analyses and tailored reports to guide executive decisions.
- Audit Coordination & Cost Optimisation: Act as the primary liaison for external auditors, ensuring a smooth and timely audit process, while implementing robust cost-monitoring measures to enhance financial efficiency.
- Financial Governance & Controls: Strengthen internal controls, ensure adherence to applicable accounting standards and regulatory frameworks, and oversee financial planning processes to safeguard assets and manage organisational risk.
- Inventory Oversight: Design and monitor stock control systems, ensuring accurate tracking of materials and alignment between physical inventory and financial records.
- Funding & Revenue Diversification: Identify and pursue alternative funding avenues beyond traditional public financing streams, contributing to long-term financial sustainability.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline. A Master’s degree or professional qualification will be considered an advantage.
- Professional Certification: A valid CPA Warrant is required.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior managerial finance role, with a solid background in financial oversight, budgeting and analytical review.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Ability to clearly present financial information to senior stakeholders and translate complex data into meaningful insights.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire confidence, foster collaboration and build effective working relationships across departments.
- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of accounting standards, financial legislation and reporting requirements, together with proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools.
- Organisation: Highly structured approach to managing multiple priorities, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of financial outputs.
- Self-Motivated: Results-driven professional who demonstrates integrity, accountability and a proactive mindset, setting high standards through personal example.
