Analyst (Significant Institutions)

Banking Supervision is responsible for the oversight of licensed banking activities in Malta This oversight includes off-site and on-site examinations of licensed institutions applying a risk-based approach. The ultimate objective is to ensure that these licensed institutions comply with all regulations and licence conditions, whilst having the necessary corporate governance and control structures in place.

Supervision of both Significant Institutions, which is carried out together with the European Central Banks through the Single Supervisory Mechanism, and that of Less Significant Institutions through the SREP procedures, is executed by the banking Supervision team.

Banking Supervision is also responsible for policy advice and development both within the MFSA and to external stakeholders, to consistently and effectively apply local legislation and transpose EU legislation and guidelines issued by the European Banking Authority.

About the Role

As an Analyst you will be assigned to carry out work which will include the following duties:

  • Form part of the ongoing team supervising a group of significant credit institutions in line with the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) framework;
  • Supporting the execution of the Risk Assessment and Supervisory Review and Evaluation Programme (SREP);
  • Being the lead contact point for the relevant experts of the bank or risk areas that you will be supervising;
  • Representing the MFSA in industry forums or external stakeholders within your specific duties;
  • Working effectively with other departmental colleagues contributing to the development of the supervisory tools and agenda within the Banking Supervision Function;
  • You will also be expected to undertake any other duties that may arise depending on the exigencies of Banking Supervision and the Authority.

About You

We are looking for candidates with solid academic background which may be considered as relevant to this post. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.

You will also possess a minimum of three (3) years prior experience in a related areas.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications, but you have at least seven (7) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

Skills and competencies:

Strong knowledge of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), banking regulation, prudential supervision, and the SREP framework.

Proven ability to assess and interpret complex financial and risk data, engage effectively with supervised institutions, and contribute to supervisory decision-making.

Analytical, detail-oriented, and methodical, with the ability to exercise sound judgement under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability, with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
