Position Name: Protocol Advisor – Full time 40 hours/week

The US Embassy in Attard is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for Protocol Advisor in the Executive Office.

BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

Serves as principal advisor to the Ambassador (AMB) and Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) on all activities related to their representational and ceremonial duties and is the liaison with Maltese authorities and other diplomatic missions to Malta. Provides advice, insights, and recommendations to the AMB and DCM on engagements with Maltese leaders in government, politics, business, and culture, contributing to oral and written briefings for the Executive Office. Actively cultivates relationships with key contacts in all ministries and institutions, serving as the Embassy’s institutional knowledge for successive Ambassadors. The role involves organizing, planning, and executing meetings and events hosted by the AMB/DCM, whether at the Mission or the official residence(s).

Education Requirements

  • Two years of College or University Studies.

Qualifications;

Experience:

  • At least three years of progressively responsible office experience with a strong protocol, networking, and event coordination component.

Languages:

  • English and Maltese: Level 4 - Fluent; speaking/reading/writing, may include the ability to translate

Job Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of general etiquette, social standards, and diplomatic protocol of Malta. Expert knowledge of grammatical standards and guides, dictionaries, and other editing manuals.

Skills And Abilities:

Independent self-starter with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills as well as strong intercultural awareness. Must deal tactfully and in a diplomatic manner, both in person and by telephone, with all levels of the Embassy’s contacts. Must be flexible and adaptable to changing tasks under pressure and be able to prioritize. Able to schedule major events from overall conception to final execution. Must be able to work independently and set priorities in order to complete work assignments in a timely manner. Must be willing and able to work extended hours and to assist at the Ambassador’s residence for official functions as needed, including weekends, holidays and late evenings, with appropriate appearance and dress for the occasion. Must have neat and legible handwriting.
