Maintenance Assistant

Position Overview

The Maintenance assistant /Handyman is responsible for helping maintain a safe, clean, and well-presented school and student accommodation environment. The role involves carrying out general maintenance, basic repairs, assisting with cleaning where required, preparing facilities for student arrivals, and supporting the Facilities team with the day-to-day upkeep of the campus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out basic maintenance and repair tasks across classrooms, offices, student accommodation, and common areas
• Perform simple repairs such as replacing light bulbs, fixing door handles, assembling furniture, painting touch-ups, unblocking drains, and other general handyman duties
• Report maintenance issues that require specialist contractors or further attention
• Prepare classrooms, student accommodation, and common areas before student arrivals, ensuring rooms are clean, safe, and ready for use
• Assist with maintaining clean and tidy indoor and outdoor areas, supporting housekeeping duties when required
• Move furniture, set up rooms for meetings and events, and assist with operational requirements across the campus
• Carry out routine inspections and report any maintenance, safety, or cleanliness concerns
• Ensure maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies are stored safely and kept in good condition
• Support waste collection and recycling in accordance with company procedures
• Follow all health and safety procedures and use equipment safely at all times
• Provide a helpful, reliable, and professional service to students, staff, and visitors
• Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by the Accommodation Director / Facilities Manager

Requirements:

• Previous experience in a handyman, maintenance, facilities, cleaning, or similar practical role is preferred
• Basic practical skills for carrying out general repairs and maintenance
• Ability to use common hand and power tools safely
• Reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn
• Able to work independently and follow instructions
• Physically fit and comfortable with lifting, moving furniture, and carrying out manual tasks
• Good attention to detail and a proactive approach to work
• Basic understanding of health and safety practices is an advantage
• A clean driving licence category B is an advantage

Availability:

We are looking for full-time team members to work 40 hours per week. The role requires flexibility to work shifts scheduled Monday through Sunday, including weekends and public holidays where required.
