Role Overview
The Financial Controller will lead and manage the financial operations of the organisation, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This position ensures the accuracy of financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective use of resources. As a strategic partner to the executive leadership, the role delivers data-driven insights to support decision-making, reinforces robust internal controls, and drives financial efficiency across all hotels and restaurants.
Key Responsibilities
- Cash Flow Management: Plan, forecast, and oversee cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity at all times. Identify potential shortfalls early and advise management accordingly.
- Audit and Compliance Oversight:Act as the key contact for external auditors, coordinating audit activities and implementing any required process improvements. Ensure full compliance with taxation, licensing, and regulatory obligations, and communicate audit findings to senior management or the board.
- Internal Controls and Governance:Assess, enhance, and maintain internal control systems by collaborating with department heads and responding to auditor recommendations. Authorise major invoices and payments to safeguard financial accuracy and integrity.
- Budgeting and Financial Planning:Assist in preparing annual budgets by reviewing past financial performance, analysing trends, highlighting variances, and presenting insights to the CFO and senior leadership for informed decision-making.
- Risk Management and Cost Optimisation:Identify financial risks and operational inefficiencies, and develop measures to mitigate them. Provide staff guidance to strengthen financial discipline and asset protection, while promoting cost-saving and process improvement initiatives.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:Prepare, verify, and present comprehensive financial statements in accordance with best practices. Deliver timely financial analyses and performance reviews to guide strategic and policy decisions by the CFO and directors.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Education: Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent).
- Experience: Proven track record in financial management within the hospitality sector, particularly across hotels and restaurants.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English; proficiency in Maltese will be considered an advantage.
- Communication Skills: Skilled in preparing and presenting financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to collaborate effectively with senior executives and diverse teams.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, OPERA Materials Control, Symphony PMS, Oracle Cloud PMS, and Shireburn Software.
- Organisation: Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Self-Motivation: Results-driven, detail-oriented, and committed to improving financial processes and performance.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical thinker capable of diagnosing financial challenges and implementing sound, practical solutions.
