Key Responsibiltiies

St James Hospital is seeking to recruit a Medical Doctor to join the Burmarrad Clinic on Part-time basis. Duties will include:

• Attending to acute patients (both walk-in and pre-booked)
• Recommending and conducting follow-up visits at the clinic for patients to ensure continuity of care.
• Performing preventive medical surveillance & Pre employment medicals.
• Performing life insurance medicals.
• Performing Free from Infection (FFI) / work permit medicals for Third Country Nationals.
• Performing driving license medical assessment.
• Performing company Health Screening general check- ups.
• Performing general health screenings upon request from patients.
• To establish and maintain good communication with patients, relatives and staff.
  
  

Professional Competency in managing the following:

• Cardiology: Chest pain/shortness of breath/arrythmias
• Endocrinology: acute presentation of diabetes, hypercalcaemia and adrenal insufficiency
• Gastroenterology: GIT bleeding and abdominal pain
• Geriatrics: Delirium/acute falls and complications/ acute incontinence
• Immunology: anaphylaxis
• Infectious diseases: septicaemia
• Neurology: stroke/ epilepsy
• Oncology: spinal cord compression/complications of chemotherapy
• Renal Medicine: Pulmonary oedema/Management of acute or chronic renal failure
• Respiratory: acute asthma/acute exacerbation of COPD
• Burns/ Plastics: Burns/ Flaps
• Ophthalmology: Cataract/ Glaucoma/Dry Eye/giant cell arthritis/Diabetic retinopathy
• Neurosurgery: Head injury/Neck and back injury/prolapsed discs/cerebral tumours
• Colorectal surgery: diseases of the colon and rectum
• ENT: hoarseness/ deafness/ vertigo/ tinnitus/ blocked nose/ epistaxis and stridor
• Breast endocrine surgery: benign breast and thyroid disease/GIT haemorrhage/GIT malignancy/ obstructive jaundice and pancreatitis
• Orthopaedic: common fractures/shoulder and elbow dislocations
• Thoracic surgery: Pneumothorax/Pleural effusion/pre- and post-op-management of pleurodesis, thoracotomy, thoracoscopy, pneumonectomy and pacemaker insertion
• Vascular surgery: peripheral vascular disease/carotid and aneurysmal disease
• Urology: prostate cancer/ renal colic/ bladder and renal tumours/ UTI’s.
  
  

Skills required

• Registration with the Malta Medical Council.
• BLS and ALS provider certification.
• Keeping abreast of any new guidelines and medical updates.
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgement in performing duties.
• Ability to work under pressure together with a high level of initiative and self-motivation.
• Ability to work accurately and diligently.
• Organisational skills.
• Empathetic and respectful approach to all.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and maintenance of professional competence.
• Ability to contribute to, and work as part of, the healthcare team at departmental and organisation levels.

• To be able to accurately record all patient consultations/visits on Hospital Information System during or immediately after the visit.
