Category Manager

The Category Manager has overall responsibility for the Product Categories - maintaining and enhancing margins, understanding market trends, opportunities and behaviors of shoppers, enhancing product selection by working closely with the Supplier Relationship Manager, working on introducing new products and brands as well as delisting outdated products thereby delivering the optimal product mix to the end consumer.

The Category Manager will manage and coordinate related projects such as product promotions, utilization of promotional spaces and shelving, product and promotion activation by liaising and communicating with suppliers on a regular basis.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Market and shopper behavioural insights via market visits to TCS outlets as well as competing.
  • Sustaining and developing average margin by item group within the department by ensuring that existing products remain within the established criteria and new products meet same.  
  • Take decisions to plan and supervise all assortments and products via web portal and delisting of products within the respective departments to drive further revenue and profitability by analyzing performance.  
  • Regularly review products forming part of the Item Groups and Categories falling under their responsibility to ensure that the selected products are the ideal fit for the different outlet locations with a view to optimizing the product selection you are accountable for on a continuous basis.  
  • Identifying products requiring updating and changes to classification, brand, department etc and coordinating with data team to effect changes as soon as they are identified.
  • Coordinate the development of communication tools with other PMs, the Marketing Team, Operations Team and other stakeholders accordingly so to ensure the smooth development of all projects and initiatives.  
  • Select products to be placed on promotions and coordinate with Marketing and Operations, the activity and promotion scheduled, coordinate product participation in promotional leaflets, determine activation in-store via ‘bancarelle’ and promotional shelves and giving enough advance notice to the Operations Team / Store Managers to enable sufficient stocks of promotional products be ordered in time for the promotional period.  
  • Any other tasks delegated by the CCO according to company’s needs.  
Educational and skill requirements

Qualifications:

  • A degree or similar qualification in Sales/Marketing/Management or a similar field is required.
  • At least 2 years of Previous experience in product management, project management, or a related field (for entry-level or mid-level roles) is considered as an asset.
